Alaura

I thought that it'd be fun to do a post all about Alaura (since I don't post about her very often...lol) She's sooo funny sometimes. As most of you know she loves Disney Princesses. Well, a week ago we got her The Little Mermaid and now when you ask her what Daddy's name is she says "Prince Eric" The other night we were eating dinner and she stuck her fork in her mouth then in her hair!!! It was sticky and we asked her what she was doing..."It's a dinglehopper" she said!!! So now she needs a fork for eating with and a dinglehopper to comb her hair with. :) Every morning when we're getting ready she asks me to fix her hair like a princess. I'm not sure why but she decided that certain hair styles look like different princesses. Ariel has a ponytail, Cinderella has piggy tails (any way to pull your hair up on both sides is Cinderella.) And when i crimped her hair she called it princes Aurora Hair. So far These are the ones she's named, but I'm sure there will be more.
Last night we went out to eat with my family for Lyndsey's 15th birthday (she'll be driving in a year...yikes!!) And while we were sitting down Eric was playing with her and told her he was going to eat her piggy tail. She threw her arms up over her piggy tails "No, I'm protecting them!" It was sooo funny to hear her say that out of know where.
She's also taken to calling us by our first names sometimes. Usually when she wants something she'll tell me "I want to stay in the shower Brooke...Otay?" or "Eric come here...Otay" She's really into this "Otay" thing. It's so fun to watch her grow and learn to assert herself. We're careful about teaching her when it's ok too... She also like to tell me "Mommy be nice to me otay? Be nice to me" She uses this one anytime I tell her she can't have or do something...
The other day in the car Eric and I were listening to her have an involved discussion with her hand...it went something like this:
"My hand hit tigger...go to time out...12345, 20...come here please... why were you in time out?...Why you hit tigger? why?...Say you're sorry (sorry)...Don't hit tigger okay? I love you" then she gave her hand a kiss.
This was delivered with so much compassion it made me feel proud because this is very similar to what her time outs sound like. I'm so glad that she wasn't spanking her hand or yelling at it (which we don't do) ...She really catches on to things. Anyway it was hilarious the first time i heard it. Now every time we're in the car her hand acts out and gets a time out...
I haven't been taking as many pictures as i normally do, but here are some from the last week.
As I mentioned in a previous post I've been trying to figure out how to work with Alaura n her Potty training...Well, two days ago we started the "Princess Alaura Potty Chart"

She gets to put 1 sticker on it for going pee and 2 for going poo poo in the potty. When she gets 10 she gets to pick out a little potty prize. So far she has 9 stickers! Considering that for a week I was lucky to get one trip to the potty a day...I'm feeling very happy with the results. She had two accidents yesterday. Hopefully she'll decide that she likes the potty again...

Here's my goof ball peeing on the toilet...don't ask me why she's sitting like that...that's the only way she'll go in the potty at home. In public she's fine, but she refuses to sit on the toilet normally at home.

She likes to stack the plastic cups...
and when they fall down she sings the clean up song while she picks them up.
Last, here are the beautiful flowers that she gave me for Mothers Day

I'm so blessed to have her in my life!!!!
Well I gotta go cuz she's trying to pull me up to play ring around the roseys

Cute pics. The princess potty chart is a great idea since that's what floats her boat now-a-days. I loved her converstaion with her hand. It's hillarious to hear them act out how we discipline.

I'm not sure about the photography. I know that photographer we are using in Utah is charging us $200 and each family gets 1 8x10 done a special way (can't remember how). We also get a disc with the pictures. I don't know how long she's had her own business. Her name is Jessica White and her business is bliss portraits. The website for her is http://www.jessicawhitephoto.com/ and then she has a blog link within it. Just so you can get some ideas and such. The one we thought of going with before her was going to charge us $300 for 6 people and $2 each additional person and she'd take as many pics as we want. Plus we would get a photo package with about 8 or so larger sizes and the disc of the shots she took. Her site is http://www.amybennion.com/. My sister Amy used a woman named Raquel for her engagement shots. Her site is http://www.raquelallenphotography.com/. On Raquel's blog you can go to February 2008 then scroll down to Sunday, February 3 - that's my sister Amy and her fiance Jessie and their kids Kenzie, Sadie, & Andrew. Her other months have awesome pics as well.
Sorry this is so long. I just wanted to give you ides. I'm not sure how much they charged when they first started out. I'll try to remember to ask Jessica when she does our pics.

It's always fun to read about all the cute things that kids do. Thanks for posting all that about Alaura.

I thought about something else just now. The reason we're going with a photographer who charges these higher prices is because they're good and we're splitting the cost between 3 families. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford getting professional pics very often. However, you're paying for quality. As you get good you can justify the higher prices. What helps people as well is being able to have a disc with the photos and your release for them to print to their hearts content. We got Miller family pics made last summer. I don't how much my in-laws paid for the sitting fee, but each pic we got cost $. He didn't give them the disc with the cost. For me to get an 8x10 and a 5x7 cost me $45. Food for thought.

It is always so fun to see the pictures and read about what the kids are doing. I love the blogs to keep up with family members.

It is crazy how fast they grow and the funny little things they come up with. It makes all the times they are naughty seem like nothing.

Wow! I would not know what to do if my babies were that big. Hailey was 6lbs 13oz and they had to do an epis plus use the vacuum. Saidey was 5lbs and I had a c-section with her, it was a much better recovery with her. Since we are planning on a repeat c-section he should be here at 38 weeks, but Saidey came at almost 36, so I am not holding my breath that he will stay in until 38.

I like your post on just Alaura. I need to start doing that for my kids! Let me talk to Marc about what day is best to come over. When is good for you guys? Oh and Aubre told me that you are going to take some pictures of her and Adam! She really was impressed with how your sisters turned out.

hey brooke

saw your comment. school is going well. i'm studying for a history test that i am taking at the end of june and then i'll be done with this term. next term i'm doing some science classes and math-college algebra and college geometry. everything else is going great. daphne is doing so well at potty training. she still has accidents here and there, but they are mostly at home. oddly enough, we take her out all the time in just panties and she never has an accident. she is in a diaper when she sleeps but it's pretty dry when she wakes up.

john is figuring out his externship for this fall in portland. we planned out our trip to move their at the end of august. we're gonna see mt. rushmore, yellowstone national park and seattle. other than that, the rest of the trip will be rather boring as it entales traveling through the midwest.

we went to a concert last night in detroit and it was really fun. we had daphne stay here with a friend and she had her first sleep over. other than that, it's still really cool here. it's only like 60 degrees today. very weird. i'm still not used to it. anyway, i hoped that includes all the latest going on with us. how bout you guys?
